Pumpkin Cookies from Jennifer Garner’s Fake Cooking Show

It’s such a treat when we’re given a new recipe from Jennifer Garner and her #PretendCookingShow. It’s even more delicious when said recipe is demonstrated with Garner’s parents in tow – my cold heart almost can’t stomach how wholesome this stuff is. In any case, one of Jennifer Garner’s sweetest kitchen projects is a pumpkin oatmeal cookie recipe.

In the video, Garner shared that Once Upon a Farm — the snack company she co-founded — has dropped a dairy-free, sugar-free pumpkin oatmeal cookie, so to celebrate the announcement, the sweet A lady’s angel decided to share a more “decadent” version of adult cookies.

The recipe Garner is working on in the clip is from Sally’s Baking Addiction and it sounds really delicious. Check out the recipe below.

Sally’s Baking Addiction Pumpkin Brown Butter Oatmeal Cookies Recipe

Everything below is via Jennifer Garner’s Instagram account.

What you will need:

  • 1 cup butter for cookies, 1/4 cup for frosting
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 2/3 cups AP flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg yolk, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract for cookies, 1/4 teaspoon for frosting
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons of milk

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F [about 180C]. If you are making a glaze, you can brown all the butter together. Once golden, reserve 1/4 cup for frosting. Also: USE YOUR PUMPKIN! Gently squeezing out the moisture with a paper towel results in harder cookies.
  2. Cut the butter into pieces and melt over medium heat, stirring constantly. The butter begins to foam and begins to brown after 5 to 8 minutes: brown spots at the bottom of the mold, hazelnut aroma. Once golden, remove from heat and allow to cool [for] 5 minutes.
  3. Whisk together rolled oats, flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice in a medium bowl.
  4. Pour 1 cup brown butter into a large bowl. Whisk sugar and brown sugar until combined; stir in the yolk and 2 teaspoons of vanilla. Whisk the patted pumpkin and slowly add the dry ingredients to wet. The dough will be thick and sticky.
  5. Using a medium cookie scoop, scoop out balls of dough and place them 3 inches apart on a lined cookie sheet. Flatten slightly.
  6. Bake ~ 15 min/lightly browned. Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 mins.
  7. Frosting: add powdered sugar, milk, 1/4 c. vanilla to 1/4 cup browned butter. This is delicious.
