Golfers of all skill levels are encouraged to hit the green in support of the Fish & Loaves Community Pantry.
The organization is hosting its 14th annual Par for the Course event on September 17 at Taylor Meadows Golf Course in Taylor.
Fish & Loaves is Michigan’s largest customer food pantry of choice, serving families in need of emergency or long-term food assistance. In 2021, the Par for the Course event helped Fish & Loaves purchase and distribute over 1.7 million pounds of food to help feed 21,634 households.
All proceeds support the Pantry’s mission to “make sure no one goes hungry” in Taylor and the surrounding communities of Allen Park, Brownstown Twp., Dearborn Heights, Romulus, Southgate and Woodhaven.
“We are in a difficult position with rising food prices and increasing demand for food aid,” said chief executive Stephanie McNees. “The Par for the Course event is one of our major fundraisers in support of the food pantry and our mission to ‘Ensure No One Goes Hungry’. We are on track to distribute more 2.2 million pounds of food this year to hungry families in the Downriver area We continue to rely on the outstanding support of our community to help us meet the demand for food aid.
Online registration is currently open for those interested in attending the event. Pricing is $100 per golfer and includes 18 holes of golf (scramble style), continental breakfast, round lunch, dinner, two-hour open bar service, prizes and the opportunity to bid on a variety of raffle prizes.
Fish & Loaves is looking for sponsors for the event. Several levels of sponsorship are available and offer a variety of benefits, including the opportunity to participate in the event.
“The sponsors really appreciated the opportunity to network with others or reward their employees with a golf outing, while meeting the needs of local families,” said Sue Vokal, event chair.
Local businesses that may not be able to sponsor but can donate in-kind items or services for the event raffles are also being sought.
“The raffle portion of the event has really grown over the years and is definitely a highlight of the event for attendees,” Vokal said. “It’s a great opportunity for local businesses to support the event while marketing their own specialties.
The Reverend Geoffrey Drutchas, chairman of the board of Fish & Loaves, said that given soaring food prices and the impact on family households already struggling to put food on the table , Fish & Loaves’ mission to fight and ensure good nutrition for those in need is more urgent than ever.
“The upcoming Par for the Course event and the generous funds it raises will allow Fish & Loaves to continue to provide a more comprehensive range of foods, including meats and eggs, as well as fresh vegetables, which are staples for most of us,” he said. “Community support for Par for the Course is crucial to achieving this goal.”
Fish & Loaves is at 25670 North Line Road. Taylor Meadows Golf Course is located at 25360 Ecorse Road. Fish & Loaves and the golf course are both located in Taylor.
