Fans of ‘Great British Baking Show’ tweet about baffling host

Have you ever wondered what life would be like if we had an American version of The great British pastry fair? Well you don’t have to, because Britain’s favorite baking competition is officially crossing the pond into US waters with The Great American Pastry Show.

August 17, Deadline announced that the famous Pastry shop The franchise will branch out to include an American adaptation of the hit British series. Released on the Roku channel in 2023, The Great American Pastry Show will have a similar premise to its predecessor. Hobby bakers will fly to England and unite in the iconic tent for a series of challenges that put their culinary skills to the test. Based on the talent that was showcased in the original version, it looks like it will take a lot of hard work to become the champion over the course of six episodes.

As for who will be in the show, celebrity chefs Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith will be back at the judge’s table, with Office star Ellie Kemper and Breakup actor Zach Cherry as hosts.

“We couldn’t ask for a more perfect duo than Ellie and Zach to co-host The Great American Pastry Show“, Brian Tannenbaum, head of alternate originals at Roku, said in an official statement. “Our adaptation of the iconic series will continue to deliver the enduring warmth and humor that fans of the pastry fair love of the universe, with a twist that we know Ellie and Zach will deliver.”

While fans were absolutely thrilled with the new show, there were mixed feelings about the hosts. Specifically, many were confused by the nationality of said presenters.

“Someone tell them that one of the main reasons we Americans love the show is because there are no Americans on it…” one fan wrote on Twitter. “Ooh interesting, considering they’re both American,” another noted. “If Paul and Prue like them, then I will, BUT I too prefer non-Americans to be on the show,” another follower said on the roles of Ellie and Zach.

Well, some things have to change and comedians Christmas Fielding and Matt Lucas will not be our guests this time. But before going any further, we must inform you that this is not the first iteration of The Great American Pastry Show. The show actually started in 2015 and went through a number of American hosts (such as food personality Curry Aisha and My Fat Greek Wedding actress Nia Vardalos)and judges.

During the last season in 2019, Emma Bunton and Spice Adam were chosen as hosts while Paul and the American chef Court of Jerez judged the competition. Also, the show was under a slightly different name – The Great American Baking Show: Holiday Editionthat you can stream on Hulu. So really, American fans got a chance to see their fellow Americans compete. It’s just now on a larger scale.
