Over the past couple of years, she’s started leaning into entrepreneurship, wanting a health-conscious, more consumer-focused product.

“I really looked for a type of product and a type of company that I thought could help people get away from sugary drinks and chemical sweeteners and potentially even alcohol,” Dougherty said.

So Dougherty began experimenting with some of his favorite tea flavors and all-natural ingredients, including stevia, a plant-based sweetener.

“I actually made the very first version of my product in my kitchen and made a concentrate of my favorite herbal tea,” she said. “I mixed it with sparkling water, and that’s really how the concept was born.”

Dougherty launched Spritz Tea in January 2020, and despite huge hurdles during the pandemic, the company has grown 500% over a one-year period, selling over 150,000 cans of sparkling tea at 400 locations, including nearly 200 Kroger stores.

“I know for a fact that Spritz wouldn’t be here if people hadn’t kept supporting and buying and cheering and helping and navigating through it all with me,” Dougherty said. “Whenever I have the opportunity to give back, I do my best to.”

Dougherty said Columbus is uniquely positioned in the country to become a next-generation innovator in food and beverage brands.
