Confirmation of the launch date of the “Michelin Guide Abu Dhabi”

Last month, the prestigious Michelin culinary guide announced its visit to Abu Dhabi.

Thursday, launch date of the Michelin Guide Abu Dhabi has been confirmed for November 10.

The guide will be unveiled at a black tie event at the Emirates Palace. Attendees will be served a menu prepared by international Michelin-starred chefs, including Simon Rogan (from L’Enclume in the UK), Bjorn Frantzen (from Frantzen in Sweden), Cheryl Koh (from Les Amis in Singapore) and Jimmy Ophorst (from Pru in Thailand), with Lee Kok Hua, Executive Chef at Hakkasan Abu Dhabi.

The launch of the Michelin Guide Abu Dhabi will take place less than five months after 11 restaurants in Dubai received Michelin stars in June.

It is not yet known whether the capital will offer a selection of Bib Gourmand establishments, one, two or three stars. A Michelin star rewards restaurants for “quality cuisine that is worth a detour”, two Michelin stars for “excellent cuisine that is worth a detour” and three Michelin stars for “exceptional cuisine that deserves a special trip”.

Michelin’s Bib Gourmand list refers to restaurants that offer “good-value three-course meals”, that is, places where diners can enjoy several courses for less than one certain amount (which varies depending on a city’s cost of living).

The Abu Dhabi guide was announced at an event in the UAE capital in September.

“All over the world, our inspectors are constantly on the ground to follow the evolution of the culinary scene and this is also the case in Abu Dhabi; our inspectors have been working here in the field for more than six years”, Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin GuideTold The National following the announcement.

At the time, Abu Dhabi was not finalized and Poullennec said it would not be set in stone until the list was released. “It’s a never-ending process,” he said. In a message to restaurateurs in the capital, he joked that they should “be careful” as inspectors are still on the ground and will be “among their regular guests”.

In other culinary news from the capital of the United Arab Emirates, it has been confirmed that the second list of Mena’s Top 50 Restaurants will be announced at a ceremony in Abu Dhabi on January 30.

The capital of the United Arab Emirates has been chosen as the host city for the second time, after the publication of the first Mena list by the World’s 50 Best group at the Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers in February.
