After working in the wine industry for 30 years and in innovation for 15 years, Tracey Mason was looking for a change of pace and chemistry.
The wine-to-weed pipeline grabbed Mason, and she quickly learned how similar and different the wine and cannabis industries were.
With her current business – House of Saka – Mason is able to combine these worlds as the co-founder and CEO of a dealcoholized and cannabis-infused wine business.
“After a certain point, with any type of industry, you’ve kind of been there, done that,” she said. “With wine, there are only limits. There is certainly innovation in packaging, but it is still a fairly traditional industry, and for someone like me who is hyper-creative. , it seemed a bit limited after several years.
Founded in 2018, House of Saka offers three different cannabis-infused wines, one of which features a living resin emulsion that Mason says intensifies the effect. Saka Spark MIMOSA – which combines a sparkling Chardonnay with Mimosa strain cannabis, is accompanied by orange blossom and tangerine essence to tie the flavors together.
The other two offerings are Saka Pink and Saka White, both of which have base wines from Napa Valley.
“Thanks to our contacts, we were able to get our hands on some fine wines, we remove the alcohol, and then thanks to a lot of R&D, we are able to create something that is a true wine experience without the negative effects of the wine. ‘alcohol. , that’s what we were really trying to achieve, ”Mason explained.
