Do you also want to have your cake and help raise funds for Ukrainian children?
Point Cook resident Colleen Serracino got the idea for a community bake sale after a UNICEF fundraiser posted on social media caught her eye.
“I had read a little about what is going on there, we all know about the war, and by raising $500, 76 children will have an education [and] they will receive school supplies,” she said.
“As far as cakes sell [for]this money will go directly to UNICEF…it doesn’t seem like a lot of children, but it’s going to make a big difference not only in the lives of the children, but also in the lives of their families.
The bake sale will take place on Sunday, May 29 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Saltwater Community Center and will feature a variety of homemade cakes and slices and cultural desserts.
“I had no idea we had Ukrainian families in the business…they’re going to be making traditional Ukrainian sweets, which people probably haven’t tried before,” she said.
Ms Serracino said she was lucky to live in a community where “everyone” seemed “to pull together”.
“Everyone is coming together and trying to make it work, so it’s not just me, I knew that by putting something like this forward something good would come out of it,” she said.
“It’s a big question at times like this, we all have our struggles…just the little things can make a big difference.”
