Legislation sponsored by State Representative Laura Hall (D-Huntsville) which would allow a mail-in vote without excuse has garnered a lot of attention lately, as it initially received support from Secretary of State John Merrill.
Although Merrill gave up his support From the premise of the bill, it remains a concern for Republicans, according to Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl.
Wahl, who was elected to the post just days ago, replacing Terry Lathan, said he had heard concerns from Alabama GOP members.
During an appearance on FM Talk 106.5 mobile radio’s “The Jeff Poor Show” Tuesday, Wahl said he hoped the Alabama legislature would not pass the bill.
“It’s the number one phone call I get about the legislation,” he said. “Party members are extremely concerned about this. I think the Republican members of the legislature are concerned about this. Honestly, I certainly hope, I think it will not pass this session. “
